Hi,

I use the latest version of SmartScore X Pro (10.2.5) to create MusicXML lead sheets. When I import the MusicXML files into PrintMusic 2010, the chord symbols are shifted horizontally to the right of their respective music notes. When I click on a chord symbol, dotted lines between the chord symbol and note show that they are attached. However, as noted, the chord symbols are shifted to the right of the notes. I can drag the chord symbols manually to the left to get them into their proper positions, but this is not efficient for scanning large numbers of lead sheets. The chord symbols are displaced on every MusicXML file I have yet imported, no matter how simple the lead sheet.

When I produce lead sheets in PrintMusic 2010 and export them to the desktop, and then import them back into PrintMusic 2010, the chord symbols are correctly positioned.

This seems to be a problem with PrintMusic 2010 because both Finale 2006d and PrintMusic 2006 work excellently at importing all MusicXML files. Both position chord symbols correctly above their respective music notes. Any help will be most appreciated.

Two ideas (however, I have the full Finale, and I don't know whether the options mentioned below are available in PrintMusic):

1) You can move selected chord symbols to the default position by hitting the Clear key (= the key above the number '7' key on the NumPad).
To select all the chord symbols on the page, hit Command-A.

2) If 1) doesn't change anything, then it's my guess that the chord symbols are already in the default position, and that the default positioning is "Left-Align Chords".
Take a look in the Chord menu.
Is the option "Left-Align Chords" selected?

Hi Peter,

I appreciate your response, but, unfortunately, the fixes for Finale don't seem to work for PrintMusic 2010. The latter doesn't have the "Left-Align Chords" command.

I've experimented further by downloading demos of both Finale 2010 and PrintMusic 2010 to see how they handle chord symbol positions. Following is a summary of my results when importing SmartScore X Pro MusicXML files into 2010 and 2006 versions of PrintMusic and Finale:

PrintMusic 2010: chord symbols are shifted horizontally to the right of their attached notes.

PrintMusic 2006: chord symbols are correctly positioned above their respective notes.

Finale 2010: chord symbols are shifted horizontally to the right of their attached notes.

Finale 2006d: chord symbols are correctly positioned above their respective notes.

The 2010 and 2006 versions seem to be handling imports of MusicXML files differently. All my MusicXML files are newly created and only a few days old. Prior to having SmartScore X Pro create MusicXML files I make certain that the chord symbols are correctly positioned in its .enf files.

Send this on to Michael Goode at http://recordare.com/ As the developer of MusicXML, he would certainly be interested in this problem.

Musitek Tech Services (producer of SmartScore) contacted me this morning indicating that they were able to recreate the problem noted above. They are communicating with Finale on how to resolve the problem. If and when they can find a solution it will be provided in a future SmartScore or Finale update.

Cordially,

Hi traiphongtran,

The problem was corrected and SmartScore now works excellently.
