After studying the tutorials and user's manual, I've successfully created my first piano/vocal score without a hitch. To my chagrin, though, the playback is not observing the dynamic expressions created with the Expressions tool; namely, two ritards and their a tempo markings, a crescendo and a decrescendo.

Active are the Play thru MIDI, Play as Recorded, and Human Playback, 21st Century settings.

Secondly, on my MacBook, the Command-Page Up/Down does not change the page number. Please advise.

Thanks to all the Finale wizards who responded (cough). After three days, I have solved my own problem, and will pass my knowledge on to other PrintMusic neophytes.

To create a functional ritard and a tempo:

1. select the expression tool [mf]
2. option-dbl click in score at point of ritard
3. select "tempo alterations"
4. click empty box
5. create tempo alteration
6. type in "ritard" or "rit."
7. select your tempo
8. click "assign tempo"
9. enter note value or leave at default (quarter)
10. enter tempo speed at ritard
11. click OK and click "assign"
12. drag the new marking to the correct staff.

Take the same steps for the a tempo or other tempo-changing markings.
