In a lot of jazz songs, at the very top right below the title, there's something that notifies you that it's played with swing. Like:

(two eighth notes = a quarter note triplet)

I don't know how to explain it, so here's an example: http://www.musicnotes.com/images/produc ... 071865.gif

You see at the very top where it says the tempo? To the right of that, it has this "equation," telling you that the song is played with swing.

How do I add this in my own song using Finale Songwriter? Like, how do I add an actual "equation" involving eigth notes = triplet at the top of my page?

In "the full Finale" you can create it yourself, as a text expression (by using the font MaestroTimes), or as a shape expression.

However, it is very possible that there in SongWriter's default document is a ready made expression with the "swing symbol".
To enter the swing symbol, switch to the Expression Tool, and double-click in the score.

Peter is correct. Songwriter has the symbol in Expression>Tempo Marks.
