I want the sheet music for a certain piece for cello. I found someone on YouTube playing the piece by ear on the cello, and it was excellent.
Question: Is it possible to record the audio in Audacity, then play the music directly into Songwriter 2010, kind of like Hyperscribe? I tried last night, but the audio would not notate.

No, SongWriter does not have that feature, sorry.
In general, what you want (notating sounding music), is not an easy task for a computer.
Several attempts have been made to create computer software that can translate sounding music into music notation, with limited success.
Your best option is the "wetware" between your ears.
In the "full Finale" there is a a feature called MicNotator that can turn audio into notation.
However, MicNotator has its limitations.
It can only take monophonic melodies, not two or more tones played simultaneously.
And the tone must be very clear in pitch, preferably without vibrato.
