Extending notation across lines

I've been running into a problem that may be simple but it's recurring. Is there a standard way to extend notational markings so they continue from one line to the next? I've discovered that this is done automatically for ties; what about crescendos that start on Line One but finish on Line Two? I'd like the hairpin crescendo marking to keep getting bigger across the lines.

Do your composition in scroll view. Many people prefer that. When you switch back to page view for layout, the smart shapes should be correct.
