Drum Set notation definition

I created a Drum Set stave and entering the correct notes to get bass and snare drum sounds (via a MIDI keyboard) results in those actual notes being shown on the stave rather than the notes that they should be mapped to. For example, bass drum is C1 on the keyboard (using GM sounds) but should be shown as F3 on the stave. The help says this is mapped automatically but that is not what appears to be the case.

However, if I use the 'Add Drum Groove' option and add just one bar in, then all the notes I added are converted to the correct notation. Playing the music back they all play the correct sounds as well. Whilst I could add a drum groove each time and then remove it to set up the stave, I wondered if anyone knows how you are supposed to set this up? Is there something that I have missed or is it expected that most people will use the preset drum beats?

I too have the same problem need to use ADD DRUM GROOVE
