I'm not strong on notation. While I understand repeats, codas etc what I want to do is indicate that a section is to be skipped on the second repeat. So, say I have 50 measures, the first repeat takes me back to the start but, this time through, when I reach measure 20. I want to skip to measure 35.

To make this clearer, the song structure has a pre-chorus on the first run through which is omitted on the second.

You can get the repeat layout with text.

I could be wrong here, but I don't think that SongWriter can create the repeat playback.

Songwriter can create the simple repeat, but it can't do the skip.

As far as notating it, the use of a DC al coda at the end of the piece would tell the player to go back to the start (da capo), play to the coda sign, placed at M 20, and jump to the coda, at M 35. You can find the coda sign in the Maestro font, and insert it as a text insert.

D.C. al Coda works fine, but in my case, the chorus starts at M35 and the coda would be at M51.

So, I want it to go right through to M50, back to M1 through to M20, skip to M35, through to M50, then to the coda at M51.

I would probably stick to the "normal" way, unambiguous for the players, but with a bit more music on the score :
write M1->M50, and a simple repeat around it
right after M50, copy M35->M50
select measures M21 (or is it M20?)->M50 and create a first and second ending.
OK, there are 15 more measures on the score, but no hesitation on the form.

I misunderstood. Sorry. I agree with michelp about the solution.

I can do it with repeats and forgo the coda but I've never seen a first repeat go over so many measures.
