I have the complete lyrics for a musical theater piece. I have to compose the score. How can I START with the lyrics using Finale and then compose the score.

When done by hand, the process is classic and simple -- layout the lyrics, choose the syllables for the start of each measure and then choose cadence and rhythm. Then invent melody and harmony.

Can Finale do that?

I am using a MIDI keyboard on a Mac OSX 10.5

"Can Finale do that?" Yes, more or less. You could easily type out the lyrics as text placed underneath empty staves. If you want them to be actual lyrics, they need to be attached to something, i.e. notes. Not sure if Songwriter allows invisible notation. In general, though, every version of Finale wants notes, or at least rhythms, on the staff before you can attach words to them.
