For about a month now, I noticed that when I use Finale, nothing else will have any sound. I have to reboot to get sound back Why?

Just quitting Finale won't do it?

If you're using the ASIO audio driver, it only allows one program at a time to use it. I got something called FlexASIO that gets around it, or you can switch to a non-ASIO driver.

Just quitting Finale often won't do it. A full reboot is needed, at least for me.

That's the way ASIO works on Windows. It's a "feature" and not limited to Finale, I don't think.

Well motet you did it again. Installing Flex ASIO did the trick. Now when I exit Finale, I still have sound. Thanks.

I'm glad that worked. I've found that if you don't have a microphone, Finale will revert Audio settings to the default, which is a pain in the neck for me, since I don't usually have a microphone hooked up on my desktop. I've been forced to write a Finale Script that I must run clunkily each time--but often forget to do--when I want Finale to produce audio. Fortunately though (I guess), if I do forget to run it, when I quit Finale the audio is reenabled for other applications, so I don't have to reboot.

Sorry for the long wait to update. There is a problem using Flex ASIO. In device setup, audio setup, audio driver, it well force it self to be the audio driver. This knocks out WASAPI. So there seems to be a trade off. Have sound when you exit Finale and give up the benefit of WASAPI or not to install Flex ASIO at all. Other choice?

I did not know this! This is not a problem on my desktop, but for some reason, my Dell laptop HATES running Finale and a DAW at the same time, which is how I transcribe music. Also explains why changing playback to use MIDI rather than VST helps.
