Is anyone familiar with a program that combines the best features of a word processing program and a program (like Finale) for printing music?

I don't think that a such program exists.
More likely you will have to use two programs in combination.

Depending on your layout needs you could

1. do it all in a music notation program (e. g. Finale),

or

2. create the musical examples in the music notation program, export as graphic files, and do the layout in a layout program (e. g. InDesign).

In Word 2003, "The Encapsulated PostScript graphics filter (Epsimp32.flt) supports the Adobe Systems Encapsulated PostScript Specification versions 3.0 and earlier. The filter supports .eps images from tagged image file format (TIFF) and Windows Metafile (.wmf) embedded previews."

I tried creating an EPS file in Finale, and Finale said: "You must first select a PostScript printer driver to compile PostScript files," but this option doesn't display in the Export Selection dialog box. Does anyone know where this selection can be made?
