I just installed my new Finale 2006, and couldn't wait to work on my old files from Finale 2001. However, when I opened the file, it's all messed up and fragmented. Doesn't make any sense. Did I forget to do something? Is there some sort of "bridge" I forgot to load?

Thanks for your help!
Sandy

Did you uninstall Finale 2001 after you installed 2006? If so, your font files need to be reinstalled. No need to reinstall all of 2006; just custom-install the fonts. (And reboot.)

No, I didn't uninstall anything. In fact, I was afraid that I'd lose my files from the old Finale, so everything is still intact.

I was hoping to be able to open the old files in the new Finale '06....what do I need to do to do that? I really thought that if I opened up an old file, the new Finale would recognize it, and I'd just be able to start work on the file. I have about 20 separate files I was hoping to be able to transfer over with no trouble, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Any ideas?

Sandy,

Normally, Finale 2006 opens files created in older versions without problems.

So I suspect that the culprit is some sort of file corruption.

Do the files open correctly in Finale 2001?

If they open correctly in Finale 2001, try Data Check from inside Finale 2001 (Options menu > Data Check).

After the Data Check, do a "Save As...", and try to open the "Save As..." file in Finale 2006.

By The Way, your description of the problem is vague.
What do you mean by "...it's all messed up and fragmented. Doesn't make any sense..."?

Please be scientific, and describe, whats wrong, e. g.
- missing music fonts?
- missing items (notes, barlines, repeats, expressions, articulations &c.)?
- missing measures?
- wrong order of the measures?
- wrong order of the staves?
- or?
