I've never used it and may be doing something wrong, but it doesn't seem to work for me, either. Hairpins in Finale were redone at some point, so perhaps it broken then. Meanwhile, JW Pattern will create hairpins.

finalizer,
Finale comes with a free sample of the TG Tools plug-in collection.
However, the plug-in Create Hairpins is not included in the free sample.
I suppose that you have bought, downloaded and installed the full TG Tools plug-in collection - right?
Are you sure you have the latest version of the plug-in?
And is it compatible with your versions of Finale and Mac OS?

It works for me but the help pop-up states it will insert a hairpin between expressions. From your picture it seems you don't have a second expression after the mf. Also, the number of affected measures must be specified (your entry is 3, should be 1). Try that and see if it works. If you don't want a second expression after the mf just delete it after creating the hairpin.

If you click the "?" icon to the right of the decrescendo box (or check the user manual) it explains that hairpins are inserted between either note or measure-attached expressions - and not to mix (it will not create a hairpin between one note-attached and one measure-attached expression). So both the beginning and end expressions should be attached either to notes or else to measures. I had to leave the "left/right marking" boxes blank - I couldn't get them to work even when changing the expression fonts to Maestro or Petrucci. Presumably the options would make it possible to process an entire region or document - if they work.

I thought measure-attached and note-attached expressions went out with the second George W Bush administration. Aren't they just beat-attached now?
But anyway, dynamics shouldn't be required to write a hairpin. JW Pattern works sort-of OK. The "padding" seems to apply to both sides, though, which is not really desirable.

Agreed, and I'm just quoting from the manual. In experimenting it worked when the expressions were assigned to the beats and the selected region matched those beats. It didn't work if the expression was attached from barline to beat or barline. It also didn't work unless I used an actual dynamic marking rather than a dummy text expression.motet wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2023 3:45 pmI thought measure-attached and note-attached expressions went out with the second George W Bush administration.
