Hi I'm trying to copy some text - not lyrics - like "solo" written above an instrument.
I select it so it goes pink/purple kind of colour and has a box around it, and I go apple+C but apple+V won't paste it. I've made sure I can copy it in the edit filter... what am I doing wrong? thanks.

What you describe, should work.

I suggest that you attach a (small) Finale sample document here, for the gurus to examine.

Before you can attach a Finale document in this forum, you must compress it, e. g. as a .zip file.
And the file size must not be more than max. 100 KB.

Thanks.
I might do that.
However I realised, I can just create a new text thing every time and specifically copy the ACTUAL text after selecting it. I thought I could just select it once so it goes purple and copy paste ... is that the problem? That you can't copy paste the text THING but can copy paste the ACTUAL text? Does that make sense???

It may not make sense, but that is how Finale works.
You also can not copy e. g. an expression THING, nor an articulation THING, while you are viewing the music notation.

For many years Finale users have requested the option of copying a selected item by holding down a modifier key (e. g. the Alt key), and dragging the selected item (= an expression, an articulation,
a repeat bar, &c.), to copy that item to another location.
But we have not got that feature yet.
Perhaps in the next Finale version…

It's not clear from your original post what all of your steps are. What are you doing in between apple-C and apple-V?

If you open a new text frame (the text thing you refer to) you can paste your text. It's a necessary step.
