I'm scanning Jazz charts into Finale. I've never used this before. It doesn't recognize my scanner so I'm creating tiffs and importing them. However, It never recognizes the time signature so the sections don't transfer correctly. Also, Some of the notes that import are red instead of black. What does this mean?

Welcome to the forum.

The red notes are in layer two. You need to become pretty familiar with Finale before you get into scanning, because you will have to do a lot of correction with the Scanner Lite program that is packaged with the program. Using the Pro version of SmartScore allows you to make many edits in the scan recognition, BEFORE moving to Finale. Of course, this requires learning the scan program, as well.

I don't want to discourage you from scanning; I use it quite a bit. But it does require mastering the learning curve of two programs.

We need a lot more information. For one, your profile says Mac, but you're asking about Windows...

Also, we need to know what version of Finale you are using.

Scanning has been removed from 25. There are still ways to do it but not from within the application.
