playback to video

I'm going to guess this is a FAQ, so I'm putting it in Beginners.

I know Finale does not (yet) supply a way to output score playback to a video file,
e.g. for uploading to YouTube and the like.

How is this done? (Surely it is done.)

I have a feeling I've asked this before or seen it discussed somewhere.

There are various screen capture video apps. That’s what you should be looking for.

You could made a PDF or PNG of each score page and then, with a WAV or MP3 of the piece, arrange these elements in a video editor. In Windows, I used to do this with Windows Movie Maker. In Mac, I'm now doing this with OpenShot Video Editor (free).

I don't use screen capture apps because my Finale files are filled with hidden items, including expressions and layered items. Some of these elements can be hidden in page view, but some will appear in screen capture. For my purposes, I create PDFs of individual pages and place them in a video editor with the music because I want all hidden elements hidden. I suppose you could create a PDF, play back the file, and manually flip the PDF pages in a screen capture app, too.

Anyway, I just like all hidden items hidden in my presentation scores.
