Choose to display the active layer only, then be in that layer, then delete everything in that layer. Jari has a plugin to simplify this if needed.

I can tell you how do do it on a Mac. Something related will surely apply to Windows.

On a Mac with a full keyboard including numeric pad:

1) Make sure that the layer whose contents you want to delete is the active layer.
2) Show active layer only (Document Menu).
3) Select all.
4) Clear with the numeric pad clear key.

With a short keyboard (eg on a MacBook) and then (I believe) only if you are using F 25.5 (not earlier):

1), 2) & 3) As above.
4) Press Shift Fn Delete all at the same time.

Then after either of the above, de-select show active layer only, select all and key 4 to restore the layout.

I hope this helps you to find the Windows equivalent.

EDIT: I see Zuill has put it more simply. On a Mac delete (as opposed to clear) risks deleting everything in all layers if one is working with a single stave.

thanks david and zuill. your advice has worked.
I have solved this:
1. view > select layer > layer 1
2. document > show active layer only
3. select all (ctrl A)
4. edit > clear all items
........DONE!.............
