The things like resizing / spacing / overlapping chords /overlapping articulations for scores for anything between lead sheets and mid sized Bands are fairly similar for each song, so it should be able to handle those with macros and plugins, right? Has anyone put a workflow together that takes care of this? Or do I have to do this by hand every single time? I am not talking about a "ready to publish" but more along the lines of "easily readable and ok looking".

Jari has a plugin called JW Change. One can create a set of operations to be applied to a score, automating many changes at once. This is just one tool, and not necessarily exactly what you want, but worth looking at.
