I am finishing up my first project using Finale. After completing the parts successfully I have returned to the score and discover that, in several places, rests that should be located on a staff are now in the white space above the staff. I am unable to select them to move them back where they belong. Any ideas?

As in another topic recently on the PrintMusic forum, unless we see the file, there might be a variety of possible causes, but we would be only guessing. In that other discussion once we saw the file, we were able to find the cause.

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, my file is too large to attach. Are you able to suggest some of the things you discovered with the other instances of this that you've looked at? If I have some ideas, I can experiment with them here. Anything you could suggest would be helpful, I'm sure.

Something I can tell you is that there was a cue placed here which I have removed. All the instances of this problem that show up in my files were in places that had had cues. I had such a problem with unwanted clefs all over the place that after I created the PDFs of my parts (which I am very pleased with) I went back to the score and removed the cue staff styles which had involved clef changes. A real pain but I had no choice. Thanks for anything at all that you can suggest.

The other topic involved rests that were moved way outside the measure, but were not cues. As far as cues, there are situations where I have had to hide rests in the cue and use another layer for the moveable rest, and then hide that in the score, all with staff styles.

If you've removed the cues themselves, then clear those measures and the default rests should reappear.

Otherwise, there's a "move rests" plug-in that may help.

OK. Thank you. I'll give these things a try.

Ha! Do I ever feel stupid! The "move rests" plug-in (which I've used many times in other places) worked! It just never occurred to me to use it when the rests were so far away from the staff. I was thrown off because the rests themselves were not selectable; but the space on the staff where they were supposed to be was! Thanks so much for your assistance!
