Finale will do cross-barline beaming but I've been unsuccessful getting this to work if the barline is at a system break. Is there a way to do this? Thanx.

Just use the built-in Patterson plug-in.
  • Highlight the section that you want to beam across the barline/system
  • Plug-ins > Note, Beam, and Rest Editing > Patterson Plug-Ins Lite > Beam Over Barlines > Create
I tested this with both across a system break and just over regular barlines.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Nick. I've tried this several times but it doesn't want to work when it involves a system break. If it works at all, it prints the first note of the next system in the margin on the previous page. So it appears to be "trying" to do what I want but doesn't quite make it. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to beam over not only a Barline, over a System Break, but also over a Page Break, right?

Do you perhaps have “Automatic Update Layout” selected?
Try de-selecting “Automatic Update Layout”, and see whether that helps.
When you have run the plug-in, you can always, manually yourself, Update Layout (Look in the Utilities menu)

Yes, I'm going over a page break as well. I well try what you suggested. I haven't explored the Update Layout feature yet so I bet this is the problem. Thanks so much!

I don't have any problem with update layout on. I think that issue was resolved at some point. v25 for me works fine. However, if that resolves the issue, then use whatever works.
