Japanese text
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I am using Finale 2007 on a PowerBook G4 (OS X 10.4.11). I’m trying to add Japanese lyrics. When I go to Document Options —> fonts to set the font for lyrics, several Japanese fonts appear. When I choose one, I can type the Japanese text normally and it appears on the score, but when I finish a section and hit enter, it turns into wacky symbols. Any way to fix this?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Finale 2007 does not support Unicode.
To make Japanese text work in Finale 2007 you must use special double-byte fonts (not Unicode fonts).
See the attached Finale document.

You are not supposed to use the document.
The document is just a proof that you can get Japanese text in Finale 2007.
You can examine the document, and see what fonts are used.

I'm confused as to why FInale 2007 includes fonts that it doesn't support...the user manual actually makes reference to the Japanese font options.
If you're willing to answer such a basic question, how does one go about installing outside (double-byte?) fonts in Finale?

I could be wrong here, but I do not think that Finale 2007 includes Japanese fonts.matternj wrote:I'm confused as to why FInale 2007 includes fonts that it doesn't support...the user manual actually makes reference to the Japanese font options …
As Far As I Know, the only fonts that are installed with Finale 2007, are the music font families (= Maestro, Engraver, Jazz &c.).
Generally, fonts are installed in the operating system, in a Fonts folder.
From the Fonts folder the fonts are available to all programs - including Finale.
(This also means that the Finale music fonts are available to other programs than Finale)
You do not install fonts in Finale (and I do not think that you can install fonts in Finale).matternj wrote:… how does one go about installing outside (double-byte?) fonts in Finale?
The double-byte fonts for Japanese text are included in a standard Mac OS installation - to make Mac OS usable in Japanese.
In Other Words:
You do already have the Japanese double-byte fonts installed in your system.
The proof is that you could see Japanese text in the Finale document, I attached (there are no fonts saved inside a Finale document).
You did open my Finale document “JapaneseCharacters.mus”, didn’t you?
If you examine my document, you can see, what font is used for the Japanese text.

Did you try to enter Japanese text into the document I attached?
