2014 Finale - Windows

Hi!

I sporadically use Finale, so I find myself hard-pressed to catch on to some of the directions in the manual.
Please help me out.

I have created a lead sheet for one voice = one staff. However, towards the end of the piece, I feature an improvisatory section, &
I actually want to add another staff so that I have a vocal ostinato going in two parts = two staves. Once that section ends, I will want to go back to having the single voice part = one staff.

When I go to the staff tool, click on measure 89, & select "New Blank Staves" from the Staff menu, the new blank staff is added to the entire score.

I have tried to follow some of the directions for Score Manager, but somehow, they are not making enough sense to me.

How do I add a staff during a song & then, ultimately, remove it when I want to go back to having just one voice part?

Hide the blank measures.

The new staff (or staves) are added for the entire score. Then, once all the notes are in, and you go to the layout stage, you hide the empty staves by using the Staff Tool.

It's easier if you are working in scroll view, for note entry. If you try to do this in page view, before you are finished, you could find that measures are hidden or unhidden, as the page updates.

If music appears in a staff previously hidden with the Staff tool. Finale will unhide it automatically, but I agree with your advice.
