Countoff volume control

Sigh. I have another simple thing today that I'm not figuring out. I want to try Finale's "Count Off" playback option (Playback Settings / Click and Countoff). It's pretty good, just using the default "Finale Click" provided.

Except: I can't seem to change the volume level of that click. When I change the "Velocity" settings in the provided dialog box, there is no change in the sound produced.

What am I not seeing? (I already know what I'm not hearing.:)

For testing, I'm using Finale's "default document", with the default playback device ("SmartMusic SoftSynth".) I'm running 2014.5 on Windows.

Thanks.

The Velocity settings do not work for Finale Click. They only work when you have chosen the MIDI option, using a GM MIDI percussion click. I have complained for years about the lack of control over the Finale Click.

And... it looks like the MIDI version of the countoff click only works when the program is in "MIDI/Audio / Play Finale through MIDI" mode? Not when "MIDI/Audio / Play Finale through VST" is set. All I get then is click-silence. Not even a cricket chirp during the countoff measures.

Is there a work-around?

If not, it's odd that they should still display "Velocity" boxes in VST mode, if those velocity boxes strictly require MIDI mode...

Actually, Finale is looking for the traditional Channel 10 which is the universally assigned percussion channel for General MIDI drums. Go into the aria player, and in Channel 10, choose the Fusion Drum Kit. That should give you the MIDI sound you need for the Click Track.

Ahhhh. Got it. I've had Score Manager / Device set to "Garritan World Instruments", rather than to "Aria Player", so I haven't been seeing Aria Player at all in my normal workflow.

But Aria is still there, and still running, and can be accessed by going to "VST Banks & Effects" instead of "Score Manager".

Right this moment, my "countoff click" is a Buffalo Drum...

Thank you!

And... Finale just went into that lovely mode where it flashes all the main menus and all the displayed dialog boxes vigorously. It's not good to "poke the bear", by using too many uncommon features...

Restarting the program fixes it...
