Struggling with how to separate the lyrics text in a vocal score staff in which I have two layers. I have the notes entered but the separate lyrics are running on top of each other. Trying all kinds of things. User manual isn't helping much. This is literally only an issue in this arrangement for two measures so I don't want to add another staff. I just want a first tenor to sing this one separate lyric and melody line and include it on the first tenor staff. Ideas?

I would enter the {first tenor lyric} in a separate Verse.
You can set a different Baseline for the separate Verse:
Lyrics menu > Adjust Baselines…

Quite common in barbershop notation. The primary lyric line (the leads) is in Verse 2, and attached to the layer two notes. Verses 1, 3, and 4 are used for tenor, bari, and bass, respectively, and attached to the appropriate notes.
