I'm trying to make a new expression (as I've done many times) but I can't type 'm' with the same font as it is written in mezzo forte fx to create a mezzo-sforzando.

I duplicated mf to try to do this.

Am I missing something or using the wrong font?

What music font are you using?

it is possible to create a msfz with the Maestro font.
The m is in character slot #189, and the sfz is in character slot #167.

You can get to the font characters via
Text menu > Inserts > Symbol…

Thank you, Peter. But when I'm in Expression Designer I can't see a way to access font symbols:

Also when I get to the menu, everything in Inserts is greyed out.

When you are in the Expression Designer, look in the menu bar at the top of the computer screen.
You will see that the Text menu is available.
Then, go to
Text menu > Inserts > Symbol…

What are your steps to “get to the menu”?
