I forgot how to manually assign an expression, like rall., to a staff system that is not first in an ensemble. When the top staff is empty, and I want to place an expression, say, between the second and third beats (offbeat) in a measure in one of the staff systems below, the expression is automatically placed on the first beat or middle beat in the top staff. Can someone refresh me on how to manually place a rall. in an ensemble?

Copy it and move it to the Misc category, and reset to the new category's positioning.

I duplicated the expression then moved it to the misc. category. That made no difference. But I did not "reset" it, since I do not know how to do that.

Select it, and look around in the dialog.

In the Edit Expression Assignment dialogue, the parameters merely show to where I dragged the expression.

In a solo, where all the other instruments are silent, it makes sense to assign, say, a rall. to the instrument playing solo, rather than having to drag the expression down to instrument that may be the fifth or sixth staff system.

Is it not possible to manually assign the expression in orchestration?

Yes, it's possible, as I said. Actually, you don't even need to reassign the positioning. Use the copy you (hopefully) moved to the Miscellaneous category and that will be enough.

Ah, yes. That worked. Thank you so much.
