I am typing lyrics directly into my score. How do I add diacritical marks (like umlauts)? I tried using the key stroke sequence used in Word (ctrl-shift-colon-<the vowel in question>) and nothing happens. I searched for "diacritical marks" in Finale help. Nothing. Searched for umlauts. Nothing.

You can try "insert symbol" from the text menu, but it may be easier to type your symbol into Word or similar and then copy and paste it in to Finale.

Press the Alt key and enter the Unicode number on the number pad. E.G. for "ä": <Alt>0228.
See this page for all Unicode numbers for german umlaute.

There was a discussion here recently where the Alt entry method didn't work (I think it was O with a macro), which is why I didn't suggest that. But ä does seem to work.

Thanks! I just got around the issue by typing the lyrics into Microsoft Word, then cutting and pasting into the lyrics window and using Click Assignment.
