Hallo guys,

Finale's tempo is being controlled in a hierarchical fashion:
The tempo in the Playback Controls is overridden by an Expression that sets a tempo.

I am working on a piece, that is constantly changing tempo. So it is full of different tempo marks and tempo alterations (Largo, Moderato, accelerando, diminuendo etc.), which are already programmed to playback accordingly.

My problem is, that during a hyperscribe recording, I would like to lower the tempo, to be more accurate with the midi input.
The tempo-related-expressions inserted on the score, do not allow me to do that.
I have to change the playback behaviour of the tempo-expression to be able to record slower, and then edit it back after the recording.

Is there a way to temporarily override the tempo-expressions, and then (after the recordings) turn them on again?

Greetings

In the Hyperscribe menu -> Beat Source -> Playback and/or Click, you can define a specific tempo for recording, which is not related to the Playback expressions.

Hallo michelp and thanks for the answer!

I tried this method, also earlier and it doesn't seem to work for some reason.
After specifying the tempo for recording (as you described) and start recording, the playback-controll-palette (on the main window) changes the tempo to what I gave, but the "click" does not change tempo.

So,
1) The last expression mark is: Adagietto (q=74)
2) I specify the Playback Tempo to q=15bpm
3) I start to record (Hyperscribe) and the tempo on the Playback-palette changes to 15bmp (as it should).
4) The click's tempo is still q=74bpm

So everything looks good, until the last step. The actually recording-tempo does not override the exressions.

Do you have any suggestions?

Here is also a recording of the whole proceedure with a new document:

Is this a bug, or am I missing something here?

Your video shows the correct procedure.
It seems that you have discovered a bug, and it is present in Finale 26 for Mac as well (tested). I also tried with a simple expression (quarter note= 200), same problem.
It seemed to work correctly in Finale 25 (Prestissimo was added in Finale 26, I found out, so I tried with Presto set to 200. The Hyperscribe recording tempo of 50 worked fine).
If more users confirm the issue, you should report it to Tech Support.

UPDATE:
I got an answer from Tech Support.
This is indeed a bug:

Thanks for contacting MakeMusic Customer Support. It looks like this is a current issue in the program. We are investigating it further to identify a fix for the issue. The expected behavior is that the record tempo settings would override any expression already in the document. This isn't happening.

In the meantime, the best workaround for the issue is to remove the expression temporarily that is adjusting the tempo until the recording is finished.

Sincerely,

Sam B. | Customer Support Representative | MakeMusic, Inc.
