Hello,

I am doing part writing exercise. I got it back and the teacher says I need to fix the parallel octaves. I am not sure how to do that because I cannot change the bass. Should I make the V chord in the first inversion? But then I will have an Augmented second problem.

Thanks

1) I am not sure about the rules you are supposed to follow.

You tell that you “cannot change” the Bass.

What about the other parts?

Can you change the Soprano?
Can you change the Alto?
Can you change the Tenor?

If you can change the Alto, then you could fix the parallel octaves by letting the Alto go from ‘e’ down to ‘c’ (if that is allowed?).

2) By The Way:
In the next measure, on the ii°6 chord, I suggest that you let the Tenor have a ‘d’ - an octave above the Bass.

Thanks. If I have the alto go to C then I will have too much space between Soprano and Alto

this really isn't the place to have people do your homework for you.

if people make suggestions, we should try to avoid giving "answers to exams".

I'm happy to see that voice leading is still being taught! I sing in an amateur chorus and it's kind of shocking what passes as acceptable for publication these days. Parallel fifths etc. are especially jarring when you're singing one of the parts. Likely the composers are keyboardists who haven't learned to think linearly.
