Pitch Bend/Glissando/Etc.

Hi all -

I'm currently using the smart shapes for the Tab Slide and Glissando tools.
What I'm noticing is that the tools seem to calculate the playback of the bend according to a variety of factors. If the notes are short, it plays a sequence of notes, instead of a "pitch bend" - and if the notes are longer, it plays each note for a period of time, with slightly drastic slide in the middle.

I'm wondering if this is customizable in any way.

Thanks!

 I too am interested in learning if a pitch bend is controllable. The most common issue for me is a bend not reaching the pitch of the subsequent note. I often have to write a separate score for playback with incorrect notation for correct playback of a bend. There might be a setting esconced in human playback, but I have not found it. Maybe a JW plug-in offers a solution.

Play around with the settings in the HP preferences and see if you can get better results.

Hi All,

On a related note, I put a few glissandi in the 1st trombone part, then changed my mind and took them out... and now the 1st trombone is playing a half-step high for the entire piece, start to finish! Yikes! Closing the file and re-opening didn't help; quitting Finale and restarting didn't help. Anybody know how I can get rid of these unintended glissando after-effects and avoid them in the future?

Thanks,
Tom

You probably also tried rebooting the computer - right?

Clear Selected Items / MIDI data

"Clear selected items / MIDI data" feels like a pretty blunt instrument and I don't want to clear ALL of the MIDI data. If I select the trombone part, will it do the right thing and remove only THAT MIDI data and leave the other instruments alone?

Create a backup copy of the document and test the option on the copy. If the problem is not solved, you can simply delete the copy and still have your original document intact.

Another option is to use the tab slide tool for pitch bends, which seems to be more accurate. You have options in HP settings to adjust the attack. If the attack of the linear option is too sudden, you can write a tied note to delay the attack. Then you will have complete control of the effect.

Problem solved. Interestingly, clearing the MIDI continuous data did NOT work, but explicitly choosing the pitchwheel in the MIDI tool continuous data dialog box and then doing a "set to" zero did.
