Changing note durations??

I have attached the bar in question. Trying to change the two 1/8 note tuplets to 1/16 tuplets (sort of a flourish), and I've tried the manual, followed instructions exactly, but it won't do it. I select the bar, go to Utilities--change note duration, go through it, it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong? Also.....I am constantly getting crowded squished-together 1/16 and 1/32 notes.....I know how to painstakingly fix it using note position tool, but how do I setup the spacing on any new document so I don't have this problem all the time?

Don't see any attachment. Anyway, what method are you using to make the change. Did you chose change by 50%?

It might also be helpful to attach a handwritten example of what you want--it's hard to understand your description.

I said I attached it, but I lied. Sorry. Here it is. And I was using the two palletes to specify the change, as in select the current duration, then below it, specify the desired change. Seems simple.....

Change the duration by 50% and uncheck rebar. You'll then need to insert a quarter rest before the triplets.

P.S.: I think that the 6 16ths should be a sextuplet instead of 2 16th triplets. Just my opinion.

Okay that worked, thank you. My confusion was I thought if I clicked change all notes it would change stuff throughout the piece. As far as whether it should be a sextuplet or not, I totally agree. I don't know how to make it a sextuplet!

In Simple entry, enter the first note, then press Alt+9 (or Mac equivalent) and set up the sextuplet.

To change the one already entered, in the Tuplet Tool, you can delete the 2 triplet definitions, then select the first note and make it into a Sextuplet. With Jari's Meter and Rhythm plugin, you can merge the 2 triplets into a sextuplet.

While we're at it, how do I go about making a string of notes say, nine notes for one beat during a 4/4 measure? Flourishy kind of stuff for a soloist. I will indicate it is rubato, but I want them to see the basic idea. And I wonder if finale has a function where I can just indicate the starting note and the landing note, and it will fill in all the notes between? In this case they would be all chromatic.

That would be a 9-tuplet:
9 Thirtyseconds in the space of 8 Thirtyseconds

For any tuplet you can make the number as well as the bracket display as Nothing.
Then, indicate e. g. a “liberamente”, or a “rubato”.

I am not sure whether “fill in all the notes between” means in Playback or in Layout?

A layout with only “the starting note and the landing note” (and an explanation, like “chrom.” or “gliss.”) takes up less horizontal space than 9 written notes.
