please see the attachment.

i am trying to notate the following 2 lines in 4/4 time:

everytime i attempt this finale ties notes together.

the reason why i am doing this is to hear how to play it.
if anyone knows how to count it i'd very much appreciate you explaining it to me.

Your picture is not very readable, but I suspect those are simple triplets and you mean Finale beams the eighths to the triplets in the syncopation. In Simple or Speedy entry, put the cursor on the note just past where you want the beam broken, and press forward slash /.

Try this notation of the rhythm.

It is the same rhythm as in your example, just notated differently.

I would count it in 8/8 - rather than in 4/4.

When you count in 8ths, the 8th triplets get poly-rhythmic:
3 triplet notes against 2 (8th) beats.
