It seems when I write for double bass in Finale, it defaults to arco. I selected "pizz." from expressions, but seems to make no difference. I'm new to writing for classical bass, so I'd appreciate if someone can tell me how to indicate I just want the bass player to hit the note and let it sound, not saw it.

Pizz works for me. Maybe we need to see a misbehaving file to troubleshoot.

P.S.: Here's a small demo.

Okay....I did some checking up on this....big list of "enabling" I had to do with HP. Now I get pizzicato, but it sounds harsh; the note is hit like a brick and sits there. I want the normal, pleasing sound of the "player" hitting the string strongly, then the sound dissipates.....or just as closely as I can come to that....I know a real bass player doesn't live in my PC. Any ideas appreciated.

Did my file sound harsh as well? To me, it sounds normal. Possibly your speaker setup needs tweaking. I had some really strange sounds using Waves Maxx, which Dell suggested I install. I have turned that off, as it destroys the sound in most of my programs.
