Hi there -

I've mainly only used Finale to do very basic scores - maybe 8 instruments maximum. I'm looking to expand for much larger ensembles, but I'm not exactly sure what path to take.

I have a few basic questions:
Starting with a piano score (fairly dense harmonies), I'd like to break it up into multiple staves, with discrete MIDI channels for each.
Is there a straightforward way of doing this?

I know that it is possible to write on a single stave with multiple layers - but my understanding is that each layer is fed into the same MIDI channel. Are there any options here?

I'm also curious if there are convenient ways of folding up multiple staves to save space in an active score document.

Thanks!

On each staff, each layer can have its own MIDI channel.
