Am I able to turn off layer colors when looking at the score? I think constantly seeing layer 2's color even when I click away from the score is annoying/distracting. I'm fine with it showing during playback but I don't wanna constantly be seeing it.

For the kind of work I do, not seeing the layers would make me crazy! I do, however, do my proofreading from a B&W PDF. Errors are easier for me to spot that way.

Motet's suggestion would exactly do what you want. You could also uncheck the other box to display unlinked elements not in orange, but black.

but that just turns off Layer colors completely...I'm wondering if I can have them visible during playback, but I don't want to see them when I'm looking at the sheet music, after clicking away from the score. MuseScore does this automatically. I guess I could just put in the layers I need with colors when editing, and turn them off when I look at the score as a whole.

You can turn them on and off as you like. It’s not a permanent one or the other.

You can probably write a FinaleScript that will do it with a single keystroke.
