How do I strum a violin

Notationally, it's pretty easy. Just create a couple of expressions. The up and down arrows are in the Engraver Text H font.
Playback is a bit more problematical. I've created up- and down-strums by modifying the playback settings of a copy of the arpeggio articulation. But I can't get them to work cleanly and clearly on the dotted eight/sixteenth combo.
Someone smarter than me will have to jump in, here!
