Making Hairpins Behave Like Music Notation

Whenever I insert a hairpin into Finale, it seems to overlap with its pre-inserted start and end dynamics.

Why is Finale not programmed to know that such overlaps are forbidden?

I find myself having to waste time re-positioning hundreds of hairpins at every occurrence, when Finale should 'know' that a dynamic line comprises dynamic settings (p, pp, ff etc.) and those signs used to modulate those dynamics. - It's all part of the same, dynamic, information stream for the player.

Have I missed something? Is there a way to get Finale to place hairpins intelligently and musically?

Many thanks :)

That's the way it is, alas. Many of us have created macros, etc., to adjust the endpoints when there are dynamics present, but you can also buy the Perfect Laout plug-in, which will fix these and many other collisions.

Many thanks Motet.

This would seem like a priority fix for the next version of Finale.

Correct me when I'm wrong, but isn't that 'priority' since last century?

Here is a demo of how Perfect Layout corrects your dynamic and hairpin placement in Finale:

If you click on this link you can also control it, zoom in, download the PDF, etc.

Or look at this GIF of before/after Perfect Layout:

I think it is unlikely MakeMusic will modify its policy of focusing on new features rather then fix old problems. Look at the Pause button: I don't believe it has ever been functional. But in all fairness to the company, v26.3 is far more stable than v2012. I also think Finale's aged GUI could use a face lift.
