Default Phrase Mark Directions

Like many, I was taught that a slur always takes its direction from the head of the starting note, unless there is more than one voice on a system. Thus in the image below, A is correct and B is wrong.

Finale often presents phrase marks the wrong way round, and the user then has to flip the phrase mark manually. :?

Am I missing something, or is there a way to make Finale present phrase marks the right way round from the get-go?

Elaine Gould's rule is that if there are mixed up- and down-stems, always put the slur above, regardless of the direction of the initial note. I believe this is what Finale does. In any case, Finale should be giving you your A, not your B, so I don't know why that happened to you.
