In the example, I have a quarter note in layer 1 and a whole note in layer 2. I want to change the quarter note in Layer 1 to a rest.
1-When I delete the quarter note, Finale shifts all the notes to the left.
2-Follwing the instructions in Help, I highlighted the quarter note and used SHIFT+DELETE. Finale still shifted the notes to the left.
What do I do? Thanks.
The whole note is a different instrument.

Thank you very much!
I use my DAW for months to create songs and tracks, and by the time I need sheet music, I have forgotten how Finale works.
Importing MIDI leaves me with a lot of clean-up, usually requiring skill with layers.
I can do DAW stuff by reflex. I need to get that way with Finale.
Thanks again,
Konrad

Note for other beginners:
@motet is correct and very helpful, but be aware that when changing a note to a rest as described, you need to be in Speedy Entry mode, not Select mode. In other words, the technique does not work if you pick the arrow tool first, but does work if you pick the Speedy Entry tool first.
