Moving Notes to a Different Layer

Once notes have been entered, can they be moved to a different layer without re-entering them?

In a vocal lead sheet, I typically show an instrumental melody where the voice rests, like during an introduction, interlude, or ending. That way a band or arranger has the vocal, chords, and important melodic lines without a complicated score.

I have already entered those lines in a new song, but realize now—for a couple of reasons—that it would be better if those lines were in layer 2. Can they be moved?
