Hello all, I'm new to this forum; hope this topic is in the right category.

For a long time I've been using an Ableton and Finale at the same time to sync my scores with my DAW and I really liked it; worked flawless. Since Ableton 11 ReWire is no longer supported. Due to an upgrade to a new computer with an M1 chip I am forced to upgrade Ableton to version 11 so that it runs natively.

I emailed the Ableton helpdesk asking if there is another way to run Ableton sync with another application and they say I can create an internal virtual MIDI bus. Here they explain how to set up.

Creating the bus was very easy - I named it Ab11 to Finale - and I see MIDI Sync information going out to a blinking light. However it still doesn't sync the two and I think the problem is in Finale. The only thing I would like is for Finale to receive the timecode and tempi from Ableton.

My settings in Ableton:

My settings in Finale:

As you see it says 'Receive MIDI sync from Ab11 to Finale'..

..then Finale's FAQ says

..uncheck 'scrolling playback'

..then this are my playback options:

...and this are my sync options:

Do you know if there is any other place I can look? Maybe I forgot to check something.. Thanks in advance!

Since Ableton 11 ReWire is no longer supported.
Propellerhead and Steinberg announced that ReWire would no longer be developed or supported after 2020, so most apps are removing it in their new versions.

I'm not sure there's anything to replace it: while the IAC bus is a common method of passing MIDI data, it doesn't seem to include (or apps filter out) the timecode part.

Did you make it work ?

It works with Logic Pro X in Rosetta, apparently only this way. Since I don't use Logic Pro X for much other purposes but this, it's okay for now

but there is a flaw, every beat is half time so its synced, but not really, so beat 200 in Logic Pro X equals beat 400 in Finale

I could make a hidden time signature to make it work but that's a lot of noodling

let me know what you found out

I found out

in finale: go to playback controls and google the 'device to ReWire host tempo', then it syncs to the daw, seems contra intuitive, since you already told it to use rewire.

anyways, this is for finale 27

I upgraded it to solve this problem but don't know if I could have just run finale25 in rosetta so though f27 is cheaper now, this might work In f25 too

With Monterey, Apple has removed all ReWire code from the MacOS. Surprisingly, sync'ing with my DAWs still works on my wife's M1 and my iMac Pro through CoreAudio as long as Finale is the Master—no more bi-directional communication. With 27.2, I'm not running over Rosetta 2.

Digital Performer is my DAW of choice. Though ReWire has not been supported in v.10 or 11, sync'ing with Finale works seamlessly. I had it working with Logic as well on the M1 but it usually sits in her office so getting screenshots has to wait till she remembers to bring it home.

I've only dabbled in using DAWs for midi playback with Finale, but instead of rewire couldn't you export the midi from Finale and open it in the DAW, then assign the VST instruments? The VST I use can save a setup so it's not necessary to create the instrument ensemble from scratch in the DAW. This allows the DAW to use the HP that was created in Finale and exported within the midi. I believe there was an article about this in Finale's blog.
