OK, here's another one: when I extracted the parts there is an occasional unnecessary repeated accidental when a note is tied over the barline... how can I 1. eliminate them, and 2. stop it from happening in the first place? 2005...

The accidental is frozen, so the fix is to unfreeze the accidental.
You can unfreeze manually in Speedy Entry with the * key.
For an automatic solution, there is a plug-in in the full version of TGTools (not the "Lite" version that comes for free with Finale).

Don't freeze accidentals (i. e. don't use the * key in Speedy Entry).
Ifg you want your document to display cautionary accidentals, use the plug-in instead (Plug-in menu > Note, Beam, and Rest Editing > Cautionary Accidentals...)

You may inadvertently have created wrong ties across a barline, e. g. from a G sharp to a G natural in the next measure.
Such wrong ties can be fixed with the Mass Edit Tool:
Mass Edit menu > Utilities > Check Ties

my error, these accidentals are in the MIDDLE of bars, not across barlines... the * gets rid of them... two bars in a row that are otherwise identical will have one with the extra accidental, the next without...
