save pdf very problematic
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
hi there
i just tried to save a score ,which is very well done with 3 measures for each staves , and though , very readable , but when i try to save it to a pdf , finale does what it wants , it saves it with for ex sometimes 5 measures , sometimes more , and sometimes finale makes a mess with the codas, and also the ties because it doesn't respect the number of measures , so the staves are one on another,
see it by yourself on the attachment.
how can i fix that??
thanks

scorn,
Your screen shots look like a single part.
Is this perhaps a 1-staff document, with only one part?
1) Are you viewing the score - or the linked part?
2) Are you printing the score - or the linked part?

thanks i locked the system , i don't know why but i did it ..Before trying again : lock the systems (Utilities menu), respace and update layout.
then respace , i found it nowhere , and then i updated the layout
and then i extracted parts and .. same problem
thanks anyway but didn't work
it is a single part extracted from a duet , cello and pianoscorn,

don't understand ,1) Are you viewing the score - or the linked part?
thanks though
i'm doing that by extracting the part i want (here the cello from the duet )How are you creating the PDF?
then after that , i exported a pdf , and the mess is here
impossible to give that to a performer
thanks though

I do not understand why you are extracting parts ?
You can not use the linked parts instead? (which is what most Finale users do)
Since you have extracted the single part, that part is now an independent Finale document.
In this independent Finale document that single part is a “score”.
But it is still possible to generate a linked part, too.
If the single part Finale document has a generated part, then you have two versions of the single part:
1) the “score”,
2) the linked part.
This “duality” can cause confusion if you e. g.
- edit one (e. g. the “score”),
and
- print the other (e. g. the linked part).
To view the linked part(s), go to
Document menu > Edit Part > …

i didn't know nothing about linked parts , first time i hear thatI do not understand why you are extracting parts ?

and i checked , and the linked parts are exactly what i printed ,not what i saw on the normal part on the normal score
so i n the end , i have to modify the linked parts and print from there
don't know why the linked parts are not the same than the normal parts
finale is such a complicated programm
now it's ok , but i have work to do! hope it won't take too much time
10000 thanks for you and the others great finale helper here

Linked parts were added to Finale in Finale version 2007.
The basic idea is that the linked parts are included “inside” the score document.
Correct a wrong note in the score - and the wrong note is automatically also corrected in the linked part.
Extracted parts - On The Other hand - are separate Finale documents; they are not linked to the score document.
Which means that you have to correct in both the score document and in the extracted part document.
Even with linked parts in Finale you can still extract parts.
But you can not avoid linked parts - since the extracted parts are created from the linked parts.
To me {extracted parts} is a “before Finale 2007” thingy.
However, there still may be (a few) cases where you need to extract a part - to get “full independence” between score and part.
