Hi,
Can someone explain why there are two apparent finale forum platforms: FinaleForum and MakeMusic/zendesk? Is there a distinction? Is one the "old" platform and one the "new" platform?

Make Music changed their forum providers a number of years ago. Many users of the old forum disliked the lack of features in their new forum, and came to this one, which existed alongside the old forum for many years, and is not affiliated with MakeMusic.

You can pick and choose, or follow them both.
