Hi all....I created a two staff score. The upper staff was a vocal, and the bottom staff was a "rhythm part". All is well and good. But when I try to extract parts, only one part shows up, with both staves on it. What am i doing wrong? Thanks in advance

Did you create it as a Grand Staff? If you create the score as two individual staves, it should work the way you want it to.

Hi...I did not...BUT...I had to go to Document - Manage Parts - , and then create each of the parts. And then it worked.
Shouldn't Finale recognize the parts automatically that are in the score? Or is this (Manage parts) the usual procedure?

Wiggy's Law:
For every Finale user who eagerly desires a feature, there's another user who wants it turned off.

Finale should definitely not “automatically, without asking for permission” do things that other users do not want.

It is not clear what you mean by your words “recognize the parts automatically”.

Please be more specific.
What are your steps?

What are you trying to achieve?
How are you trying to do it?
What happens when you do that?
What doesn't happen that you expect to happen?

Also, attach your Finale document here, for the gurus to examine.

If you created your score with the setup wizard, should should have gotten two parts unless you chose something with a grand staff, as Mike says, so I don't know what happened.

If you are using File/Extract Parts, by the way, that will create separate files for the parts and is old school. Rather, you can keep everything in on file and print out parts individually with the print dialog.
