How is it done?
Once done, how is it converted to MP3 format?
Or. . . do I need another piece of software to do this operation?

To import any aiff file into iTunes, just drag the file over the application or its icon in the dock.
To convert in mp3 in iTunes :
Preferences->Advanced->import : select : mp3
Then, control/click (right click) the file and select "convert selection in mp3".
NB : Finale can save in mp3 directly. The "Save as audio file" dialog box has 2 buttons, the bottom one is for mp3.

for your reply.
i have Finale2008 - and in the special save dialog box - there are two buttons to choose for how to save the audio file
one is for aiff, and the other is for WAV.
there is no option whatever for .mp3.
is this something different in 2008 from the other finales?
will take a look at your iTunes import of an aiff file. last night we tried several times to drag the aiff file into iTunes - and nothing happened. we will try dragging it over the iTunes icon in the dock and seeing what happens.
again, thank you for your help and attention

I use Finale 2008, too (Mac). As it is impossible to attach a file to a post on this forum, I'll try to send you a screenshot of my "save as audio" dialog box.
Update : well, it also seems impossible to attach a file to an email here. Send me your email address, and I'll see that you get his screenshot.
PS : If drag & drop an aiff file on the iTunes application icon (or dock) does not work, launch iTunes and in the File menu, select import.
