I love the ability to use the number keypad shortcuts to enter notation faster, but there is no number pad on my laptop. is there a way to use the shortcuts on a laptop (4-1/8, 5-1/4, etc...)? This is in version 2007.

On many laptops, the number pad overlays the keyboard. Look for it below 7-8-9 (U-I-O should have 4-5-6, etc.). This would be activated by a Pad Lock function. Alternatively, Radio Shack sells a USB number pad for not much.

I picked one up at a computer supply store called Microcenter. They had a cheap one for around $10 but I bought a better one for $20. It connects USB and works fine. You don't have to go to Radioshack. But...you could.
