Hi, I'm new to Finale. (I'm using Finale 2007) I found a slur in one of the measures that I can't get rid of. I didn't add it manually, so I'm not sure how it got there.
I chose the slur tool, but I cannot select it to delete it.
Can someone help me get rid of it?

Thanks

You're sure it's a slur and not a tie? You don't say which flavor of Finale you're running, but if you have the Selection tool, double-click on the "slur" and it will become active.

It may be a tie. I did select the slur tool and when I click on it or the note a slur is added.
In that case how do you remove the tie?

Thanks

I, too, am new to Finale.

On a first try to create a score, I used slurs instead of ties. I cannot delete the slurs. (Yes, they are slurs.)

An online tutorial says to highlight the slur's handle, then hit "delete". However, this doesn't work for me.

Any suggestions?

How about using the Selection Tool? If you select the slur and press Delete, does that work?

Perhaps you are not really selecting the slur first. Click the handle so that it's filled in, the press Delete (not Backspace). Not all Macs have a Delete key, apparently.

I have tried using the "select" mode. I can get it to put a dotted line around the slur, but delete does not remove it. (I DO have a delete key on my MAC.)

Also, in both "shapes"and "select" modes, I have selected and highlighted every one of the handles, trying to delete it.

Two additional pieces of information:

1. I am using a MacBook Pro with "bootcamp". I am using it in "Windows" mode, with Windows 7, 64 bit.

2. The slur I am trying to remove is red in color. That led me to believe that I may have inadvertently applied it in "second layer" mode. I have tried all of the suggested steps with each of the 4 layers active. Still no luck.

Slurs are always red, and I don't think they're assigned to layers.

After selecting, the handles should be colored in, as in the picture.

"Bootcamp" may indeed be the culprit in mapping the oddball Apple keyboard to Windows. Instead of pressing Delete, after doing the selection, carefully right-click one of the colored-in handles and pick Delete from the menu.

Thank you, Motet.

However, problem solved!

Being a Mac, there isn't an obvious "right click". I connected my external mouse and have now found lots of options that were previously unavailable.

I thought that "click", plus either "control", "option" or "command", would equal a "right click", but my mouse gives me many additional new choices.

If you’re using the touchpad, you can set that up for right click = context menu, as well.
