"Delete measures" is grayed out of edit menu

What do I need to do to use this function? I have no trouble highlighting all the bass clef, I just can't get rid of it via the Edit box, nor by pressing delete.

Also, I somehow got both measures 16 and 18 showing the clef sign and key signature. What's I do? How does it undo.

First, please add the program you're using to your signature, in the forum Control Panel.

Delete measures is for deleting a measure stack. To remove an entire staff, use the staff tool. Select the staff tool, click in the selection box at the left end of the staff, and DELETE.

i DO have the entire measure stack selected,
i've restarted Finale and my computer,
the systems are UNLOCKED
there are no hidden staves
I've tried adding (new) measure stack measures and those new measures join the ranks of not being able to be deleted

Is this all files, or just one? Some files can become corrupted for no apparent reason. You might try exporting it as XML, and importing it back into Finale. Or, set up a new doc, and copy your existing document into it.
