The delayed "sound"
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I did a little duet approx 32 measures long, and when I play it, the cursor goes from the beginning to the end, or course, BUT the music doesn't start untill approx the FOURTH measure. Meaning the first four measures are SILENT................
Wondering what is happening here?
thx,

I have noticed that in the full Finale 2010 as well. My usual solution is to add an empty bar at the beginning. I think that the playback is starting berfore Finale fully renders what it is supposed to play. I amagine it is from attempts to speed up the beginning of palyback, but doesn't quite achieve what they were going for.

I've been just adding to the first measure. (The method of using a silent measure is just as good unless there is a conflict with a pickup measure.)
I make the first measure have two or three extra beats at the beginning.
For example, I set the time signature (for the first measure only) to 7/4 with 4/4 as the display signature. Then the first measure startss with a hidden dotted half rest. The rest of the piece is in 4/4.

I stumbled on an easy correction for delayed sound. My system is Windows 10.
You can use playback in either Selection mode or Simple mode. My system cures itself when I click the Simple icon. Then I either play back from there, or go back to Selection mode, and the delay is vanished. No need for closing Finale or rebooting the computer. After I horse around with Finale for a while, playback slows down again, so I just click Simple whenever it does.
I haven't seen this solution posted anywhere in current times.

The delay happens on my system, Windows 10, Finale 26.2.
I discovered that switching to Simple (and back to Select mode or not) also solves a related problem -- sometimes/rarely, playback delivers no sound at all, although the cursor moves along as it should. This can happen on a fresh Finale start or at any time, as I open & close docs. Apparently, switching to Simple performs some salient sound initializations?
