entering notes in speedy entry

Please help me! I'm trying to enter notes, but they keep coming out rests instead. The only way I can get notes is to go back and change my rest to a note. I am on an iMac G4. I have tried to use caps lock with no luck, and I don't even seem to have a num lock on my keyboard. What can I do?

Go to the speedy entry menu and uncheck "use MIDI keyboard for entry"
